SKA South Africa Bursary / Scholarship Programme.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Bursary Award Programme 2018.  Interested applicant(s) ought to follow the details and procedures on this page to secure this opportunity.

ABOUT THE BURSAR

The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project is an international project aimed at building the largest radio telepscope in the world.

The radio telescope would be built in South Africa and Australia and would have a one square kilometre collecting area.

SKA South Africa have 4 bursary programmes for students within related fields: The National Diploma Bursary, Undergraduate and Honours Bursary, Postgraduate Bursary, Doctoral and Masters Bursary.

ABOUT THE BURSARY

Bursaries will be awarded to students who are studying (or wish to study) one of the following qualifications
National Diploma:

  • Construction Management: National Diploma
  • Electronic Engineering: National Diploma
  • Mechanical Engineering: National Diploma

Undergraduate and Honours:

  • Bachelor of Computer Engineering
  • Bachelor of Computer Science (co-majoring in in Applied Mathematics/ Mathematics)
  • Bachelor of Electronic & Electrical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Electronic Engineering
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science (majoring in Applied Mathematics/ Mathematics AND Physical Science)
  • Bachelor of Science (majoring in Physical Science AND Astronomy)
  • Bachelor of Science (Honours) (Astronomy/ Astrophysics/ Computer Science/ Electronics/ Physics)

Postgraduate:

  • PhD qualification
  • MSc qualification
  • MEng qualification

Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Bursary – ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:
National Diploma applicants:

  • South African citizen/ permanent resident,
  • Currently studying (or intend on studying) within one of the aforementioned fields,
  • Achieved a minimum “C” symbol in Physical Science and Mathematics in Matric OR achieved a minimum average of 60% for major subjects in their national diploma.

Undergraduate and Honours applicants:

  • South African citizen/ permanent resident,
  • Currently studying (or intend on studying) within one of the aforementioned fields,
  • Achieved a minimum “C” symbol in Physical Science and Mathematics in Matric OR achieved a minimum average of 60% for major subjects in their undergraduate qualification,
  • Intend to undertake postgraduate research in radio astronomy or in an engineering field related to radio astronomy.

Doctoral and Masters:

  • South African citizen/ SA permanent resident OR Namibia/ Kenya/ Mozambique/ Botswana/ Zambia/ Mauritius/ Madagascar/ Ghana citizen,
  • Excellent academic results,
  • Intend to pursue postgraduate research related to the technical and scientific of SKA.
